Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the transmission of structured data between organizations electronically. This process can be used to send electronic documents or company data from one computer to another or between one trading partner to another trading partner without human intervention.
The EDI standard is designed independently from the communication method and its software technology. EDI can be transmitted using various methodologies agreed upon between the sender and the recipient.
